Short Story
Kilmarnock is Still in the Dark. Will You Be the Light?
While the world’s headlines have moved on from Hurricane Melissa, the silence in the hills of Kilmarnock is deafening.
In this remote farming district, 200 families—the very people who work the soil to feed Jamaica—are living under shredded tarps and broken zinc. For these mothers, fathers, and elders, the storm didn’t end when the winds stopped. It continues every night they sit in total darkness, every morning they look out at a field of ruined crops, and every time they wonder if they’ve been forgotten by the world because they live “too far out.”
Emprezz Golding is on the ground, witnessing the heartbreak firsthand: a 92-year-old grandmother waiting for a dry place to sleep; a farmer looking at his empty coop, his entire life’s savings gone with the wind.
We are not just asking for a donation; we are asking you to adopt a family’s future. Your gift is the sheet of plywood that stops the rain, the solar light that makes a child feel safe at night, and the bag of seeds that restores a father’s dignity.
Kilmarnock may be the last to receive help, but they are the heart of our island. Let’s show them they are not alone.

Donate to the Post-Hurricane Melissa Relief Fund for Kilmarnock
In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, the farming community of Kilmarnock is facing its toughest season yet. While the storm has passed, the devastation remains: over 200 families on the border of St. Elizabeth and Westmoreland are still struggling with damaged homes, lost livestock, and total isolation from essential services.
Kilmarnock is the backbone of Jamaica’s food supply, but because of its remote location, it is often the last to receive help. We are changing that.
The Mission: Led by Emprezz Golding
As a Community Relief and Rebuild Mobilizer and 2022 Prime Minister’s Awardee for Social Enterprise, Emprezz Golding is on the ground, working directly with community leaders to ensure aid reaches those who need it most.
This is a direct response to the destruction of Hurricane Melissa. We aren’t just providing temporary relief; we are rebuilding livelihoods.
First Phase Goal: Rebuild, Restore, Restart
Your donations go directly toward these critical priorities identified by the residents:
-
Solar Lights & Generators: Bringing security and power back to families living in darkness.
-
Potable Water: Providing clean drinking water while local systems are offline.
-
Livelihood Restart: Replacing lost livestock (layers, broilers, goats) and providing seeds and fertilizer to get farmers back in the fields.
-
Building Materials: Supplying zinc, plywood, and cement to over 200 damaged homes.
